الملخص
Ilal al-Ḥadith (hidden defects in Hadith) is a branch of knowledge that investigates flaws that may affect the authenticity of prophetic traditions, whether in the chain of transmission (Isnad) or the text (Matn). These defects can weaken a Hadith or render it unacceptable. Imam Abdullah ibn Abdul-Raḥman al-Darimi—one of the eminent Hadith scholars of the 3rd century AH—played a significant role in this field, employing precise methods for analyzing defective traditions.
This study aims to examine the contributions of Imam al-Darimi to the science of Ilal (Hadith defects), which focuses on identifying hidden flaws in prophetic traditions that may impact their authenticity. The research explores his methodology in analayzing and classifying defective narrations, highlighting his critical standards and approach to scrutinizing reports.
The study follows a descriptive-analytical method, reviewing the traditions found in Sunan al-Darimi and comparing them with other sources. It also analayzes his critical methodology using specialized Hadith sciences tools.
The findings indicate that Imam al-Darimi demonstrated exceptional methodological precision in examining Hadiths by reconciling various reports and investigating defects in both the Isnad and Matn. His scholarly approach was enriched by his commitment to justice and the reliability of narrators. In this context, it can be said that his methodology significantly contributed to the development of Hadith sciences, making his critical observations a fundamental reference for researchers in the field of Ilal al-Hadith..
