Shaykh 'Ubayd Allah Raḥmānī al-Mubārakfūrī and His Scholarly Efforts in the Field of Ḥadīth by Teaching and Writing

Abstract

Shaykh 'Ubayid Allah Raḥmānī al-Mubārakfūrī is considered as the last link of Ḥadīth scholars belonging to the group of Ahal al-Ḥadīth in India. After him, the group was not blessed with the same expertise in Ḥadīth, and who could collaborate between Ḥadīth and Fiqh based on the approach followed by olden Ḥadīth-centric scholars, and who could be sought for his knowledge in India. This research sheds light on the life and efforts of this great scholar in serving the Prophetic Hadith. It consists of two sections: Firstly, about his personal and scholarly biography, and secondly about his scholarly contribution in this field. The research follows descriptive and inductive approach. The research concludes with important findings, which include, that Mubārakfūrī was a great Ḥadīth expert, a visionary jurist, and a scholar with versatile knowledge. Despite all this he was not a frequent writer like other contemporaries of his own religious group. Hence, he was known only by one book i.e. (MirꜤāt al-Mafātīḥ) which is the first commentary on the book of (Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ) written in a pattern of Ḥadīth-centric approach without restricting to a particular Fiqh school (madhhab) or advocating for one.

يُعتبَر الشيخُ عُبَيْد الله الْمُبَارَكْفُوْرِيّ الرَّحْمَانِيّ حلقةً أخيرةً من سلسلة أعلام المحدِّثين المنتمية إلى "جماعة أهل الحديث" في الهند، حيث إنها لم تَنعَم بعده بِمَن مَهَر امثلُه في علم الحديث، وجَمَع بينه وبين الفِقه على طريقة المحدِّثين القُدَامى، ورُحِلَ إليه لأجل طلبه من أنحاء الهند. وهذا البحثُ يسلِّط الضوءَ على حياة وجهود هذا العالِم الجليل في خدمة الحديث النبوي، وهو يشتمل على مبحثَين، يختصّ أوَّلُهما بسيرته الذاتية والعلمية، ويعرِّف الثاني بمساهمته العلمية في هذا المجال، واتّبعتُ فيه المنهجَ الوصفيَّ والاستقرائيَّ. ويختم البحثُ بخاتمة تتضمَّن أهمَّ ما توصَّلتُ إليه من النتائج المهمة، ومنها: أنَّ الشَّيخ الْمُبَارَكْفُوْرِي كان محدِّثاً جليلاً، وفقيهاً بصيراً، وعالِماً ضليعاً، لكنه مع ذلك لم يكن مُكثِراً من التأليف في هذا المجالِ مثلُ كثير من علماء هذه الجماعةِ من مُعاصِريه، لذلك لم يُعرَف من أعماله العلمية غيرُ كتاب "مرعاة المفاتيح" الذي يُعَدُّ أوَّلَ شرح لـ "مشكاة المصابيح" أُلِّفَ على مذهب المحدِّثين دون تَقَيُّد بمذهب مُعيَّن من المذاهب الفقهية أو انتصار لأحدها.
