The Islamic tradition, particularly the Hadith literature, contains specific injunctions regarding the treatment of certain animals classified as al-fuwaysiq (pests), including the command to kill al-Wazagh (lizard). This directive has sparked theological, ethical, and ecological debates, raising questions about its contextual interpretation, ethical implications, and alignment with contemporary environmental ethics. Despite its significance, there is limited academic research examining this command through a multidisciplinary lens, integrating Islamic jurisprudence, Hadith sciences, and modern ecological perspectives. This study aims to critically analyze the Hadith concerning the command to kill al-Wazagh, exploring its textual authenticity, historical context, juristic interpretations, and ethical dimensions. It seeks to reconcile traditional Islamic teachings with contemporary ecological principles, providing a nuanced understanding of the ruling. The research employs a qualitative, combining textual analysis of Hadith literature, historical contextualization, and juristic examination within Islamic legal frameworks.It also incorporates ecological and ethical perspectives to assess the implications of the command in modern contexts. Primary sources include classical Hadith collections, exegetical works, and juristic treatises, while secondary sources encompass Islamic contemporary scholarly notions on environmental ethics. The study reveals that the command to kill al-Wazagh is rooted in specific historical and cultural contexts, with juristic interpretations varying across Islamic schools of thought. While the Hadith emphasizes the elimination of harmful creatures, contemporary ecological principles call for a balanced approach to biodiversity and animal welfare. The research highlights the need for contextual reinterpretation of such rulings to align with modern ethical and environmental considerations. Future studies should explore broader Islamic teachings on animal welfare and environmental ethics, examining how classical rulings can be adapted to address contemporary ecological challenges. Additionally, comparative studies with other religious traditions could provide deeper insights into the intersection of faith, ethics, and environmental stewardship.
